Connection to College Learning
In SPED 441, at Towson University, an alternative to Reading Rockets we learned about was ReadWriteThink. This alternative site was also utilized in the development of our learning strategies binder. ReadWriteThink also provides many resources we learned about in class. ReadWriteThink also differentiates materials. Many of the print outs are also offered in the form of an online interactive. There are multiple versions of printouts and a few different versions of the student interactives. For instance, there is a KWL chart printout and a KWL student interactive. Allowing students to choose their method of demonstration of knowledge enables them to succeed most.
An Interactive Activity for StudentsThe Trading Card Creator allows students an alternative method to demonstrate their knowledge of various topics. Topics include fictional or real person, fictional or real place, physical object, event, abstract concept, or a create your own option. As an example, we created a card about Towson University, shown to the right. Shown on the bottom right is the back of the card. Each section of the card has prompts for how to fill in the section. On the bottom left, is the beginning page for the activity. Students are required to write their name so that educators can, if all students have internet access, assign students to research a given or chosen topic and create a trading card about the topic.
